New Business
Julie Bohl announced that there was one item of new business. She asked Adele Smith, of Middle Tennessee Tres Dias, to come forward and present her written motion.
“I move that the Assembly refer to the Secretariat for review of 6.3.1 of the By-Laws relating to “Qualifications of Candidates for Members”.
Eric Borman seconded the motion. Adele Smith was given the opportunity to discuss her rationale. Julie Bohl reminded the Assembly that the motion was for referral to the Secretariat for review. Any changes in the By-laws must be made by proxy vote.
The verbal vote on the motion was too close to call; therefore it was announced a floor vote would be taken. Paddles giving total votes for each represented community were distributed to the delegates. The delegations caucused and a vote was taken. Again, the vote was very close; therefore a ballot vote would be required. Ballots were distributed to the delegates. The Elections Committee counted the ballots and presented the results: 154 votes in favor and 72 votes opposed. Motion carried.
Thank you to the Pescadores of NTTD.
Julie Bohl called on Kurt Baxter to accept our thanks on behalf of the entire community of North Texas for their “intense and thoughtful preparation that provided a Texas-magnitude welcome, hospitality that made us feel like royal guests, workshops and worship services that opened our minds and filled our hearts, and food that tickled our taste buds, and Palanca that lifted us, moved us and amused us. We experienced God’s grace through the gifts of your labors and through all the people you have so lovingly gathered in this place!” She asked Margie Wallis, General Planning Chair for the 27th Annual International Assembly to come forward. On behalf of the International Assembly, Julie thanked Margie for leading and inspiring the team that hosted the Assembly, and for leading the Essentials training workshops on Friday. Margie dedicated a year to preparing for the Assembly.
